Staying Healthy in a Dorm

Attending undergraduate school for the first time is usually a combination of mixed emotions - excitement, confusion, anxiety, and many others. It is more of a life changing experience and even stressful at times. Staying in a dorm has its good and bad side. People will meet other people whom they can build relationships with, which is a good thing. However, the down side of it is that there is a big chance of catching disease like coughs or colds or experiencing health problems caused by high levels of stress and school pressure.

To avoid getting sick while living in a dorm, people should always make sure that they get enough sleep all the time. This should contribute to having strong immune system and resistance from illnesses. Since you will be using restrooms with strangers, it is best to wash the hands after using the restroom before eating or touching one's face. One can also use waterless hand sanitizers or purifiers.

Regular exercise is important to stay fit and healthy even with a hectic schedule. By waking up early in the morning and spending at least 30 minutes of doing physical activities like walking around the university block, or on your way to the laundry cleaners. One can also choose to do some exercises inside the room. You can buy an exercise mat and do some sit-ups and crunches every day.

Avoid making food choices that are have high cholesterol and calories. Instead go for low-fat and nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and the like to help maintain a healthy body and a sound mind, which are very important in order to ensure that you can take all the pressures of the university life.
